Meet The Author

Dr. D is board certified in general
and addiction psychiatry.

As Associate Professor of Psychiatry at three major universities, she  taught many student doctors and resident physicians about the diagnosis and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues. In addition, Dr. D is the author of a number of papers, book chapters and two books on these subjects.

Looking for a change of pace,  Dr. D eventually migrated from Chicago to northern Wisconsin where, for several years, she had  a psychiatric practice.  Currently, Dr. D serves as a consultant to local organizations regarding the care of individuals with psychiatric and substance use disorders.

The blog, sjdpsych, continues Dr. D's long history of teaching about what a psychiatrist sees and does. It is also an opportunity to share with the curious reader some of the ways that psychiatry continues to evolve.

Dr. D resides on a small hobby farm. This is now home to chickens, guinea fowl, goats and a dog. For fun she blogs for publications regarding small farm living, milks goats, makes cheese, and gardens.
